Dear President Aoun and Prime Minister Salam,

As Co-Chairs of the U.S.-Lebanon Friendship Caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives, we extend our heartfelt congratulations on the successful, democratic, and constitutional election of Lebanon’s President and the selection of its Prime Minister. After a two-year political vacuum, this marks a significant milestone, offering renewed hope for the Lebanese people and the country’s future.

As steadfast friends of Lebanon, we support your commitment to rebuilding and reforming the nation for the benefit of its citizens. Under your leadership, Lebanon now has an opportunity to flourish as an independent, sovereign, and prosperous country. We encourage you to focus on strengthening the rule of law, eradicating corruption, eliminating undue influence from political elites and sectarian favoritism, and freeing the nation from the malign influence of Hezbollah. Additionally, we urge you to take long-overdue steps to address the humanitarian and economic crises that continue to impact the Lebanese people.

Your strong commitment to reform is essential to Lebanon’s path forward. These efforts will not only improve the lives of the Lebanese people but also enhance Lebanon’s standing as a trusted and stable partner within the international community. As you embark on this journey of reform and reconstruction, we encourage you to seize this opportunity to build a democratic Lebanon that truly serves the needs of its citizens. We look forward to working alongside President Trump and his Administration to engage with your government during this promising new chapter for Lebanon. In Congress, we remain dedicated to strengthening the longstanding U.S.-Lebanon relationship and supporting Lebanon’s return to its historic stature as a beacon of stability and prosperity in the region.
